Mt. Nebo
Mt. Nebo
by Marie Schryver
I was remembering the last place anyone saw Moshe alive. The
account is in the last chapter of the Torah, Deuteronomy 22. He was on Mt.
Nebo, where he was allowed to look at the Promised Land from a distance. When
he died, the Word says that Yah Himself buried him!
The Word also says that the people of Israel cried and mourned for Moshe for 30 days!
There's an instrumental piece of music that I truly love. It
was popular in 1988, written and played by Dove Award winner, Twila Paris and
it's called " Mt. Nebo ."
I found an article in the Charisma Magazine archives that she wrote about her
ministry as a musician as well as her travels with and without her husband.
Here is a quote: "Moses was called to do a special
work for God, and he was given everything he needed to do the job. Still, the
journey to the promised land was tough. Moses often found himself on rocky and
unfamiliar terrain. But in the end Moses could look back on that tough road
without regret. From the top of Mount Nebo, he could see the big picture. And
he knew that what was ahead for the Israelites was worth every difficult step
of the journey." “God blessed Moses by placing a special group of family
and friends around him. The Lord chose Aaron, Moses' brother, to be Moses'
spokesperson and right-hand man. He gave him Joshua to help lead the Israelites
into battle against the Amalekites. And he gave him Hur, who, along with Aaron,
helped hold up Moses' arms over the battlefield to ensure victory. Never forget
the power of family and friends! They are your strongest supporters in every
way. God put them in your life for a specific reason. Don't be afraid to lean
on them when you need encouragement, support and joy.”

from Unexpected Sources – by Twila Paris - Charisma Magazine 2004c ***
What a great and timely bit of encouragement!
Even in the late 80s and early 90s, when I would listen to her Mt. Nebo instrumental until I thought I had memorized every note, I would imagine Moshe looking over the Jordan and having his life flash before his eyes knowing that his journey was done. I imagine the sorrow for striking that rock! I also imagine the unfathomable joy for all his eyes had seen - especially being in the presence of the Most High! Can I “imagine” it? Can anyone?
What I do try to imagine is the looks on pharaoh’s face when he was met with
each of the plagues and how his look of hubris became despair. And what did
Moshe’s and Aharon’s face look like each time pharaoh’s heart was hardened?
What about the people of Israel? Did they all get angry or just the ones who
were the most tainted by being in Egypt for so long? Can I imagine the elation
of being told to get out of Egypt and given untold fortunes just to make sure
they leave? Then imagine when they got to the Red Sea and realized that
pharaoh’s chariots were right behind them! Were they still afraid even though
Yehovah put a pillar of fire between them and pharaoh and his army? And when
that sea opened in front of them...!
And yet, all those experiences
and the Mt. Nebo experience for Moshe is nothing compared to Yashua’s
resurrection!
Imagine the looks on the disciples’ faces when they saw
Moshe and Eliyahu? Imagine their surprise when He transfigured before them.
Imagine Miryam’s face when she realized that Yashua was alive!
Imagine when Yashua appeared in a closed room and Thomas put
his hand in the scars on His body! [John 20:26]
As grand and beautiful and awesome the story of Passover is and yet, the best part of Passover is telling how Yashua, the Passover Lamb that takes away the sin of the world, rose from the dead and how He’s coming again.
Is the final resurrection of the righteous going to look
like a sea of humanity parting and the Remnant Bride marching through? The
GREATER EXODUS!
Maybe next year in the New Yirushalayim! After all, the King
IS coming!
Are you ready?
