The Descriptive Names of Yehovah by Marie L Schryver

בְּרֵאשִׁית, בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים, אֵת הַשָּׁמַיִם, וְאֵת הָאָרֶץ

In the beginning ELOHIM created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
H430 EL - Elohim אֱלֹהִים EhloHEEM is plural even though YEHOVAH IS ONE and He has ONE NAME, יְהוָֺה. However, He has many descriptions. The writers of the TORAH use the plural of EL to show emphasis when speaking of the Creator.
Note: The first word in the Torah begins with a larger letter beit to show importance.

אֵלֶּה תוֹלְדוֹת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְהָאָרֶץ, בְּהִבָּרְאָם:  בְּיוֹם, עֲשׂוֹת יְהוָֺה אֱלֹהִים--אֶרֶץ וְשָׁמָיִם

These are the generations of the heaven and of the earth when they were created, in the day that YEHOVAH ELOHIM made earth and heaven. Genesis 2:4
H3068 Yehovah is translated as LORD in all upper-case letters. It literally means ‘I ALWAYS WAS, I AM, I ALWAYS WILL BE.’ This is the first mention of His true Name, יְהוָֺה YEHOVAH (Yeh ho VAH), which is confirmed to Moshe in Exodus 3:14-15.
It ( יְהוָֺה ) was changed to LORD, which is not His Name but a description, nearly 7,000 times by the KJV English translators.

 וַיְהִי אַבְרָם, בֶּן-תִּשְׁעִים שָׁנָה וְתֵשַׁע שָׁנִים; וַיֵּרָא יְהוָֺה אֶל-אַבְרָם, וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אֲנִי-אֵל שַׁדַּי--הִתְהַלֵּךְ לְפָנַי, וֶהְיֵה תָמִים

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, YEHOVAH appeared to Abram, and said unto him: ‘I am EL SHADDAI; walk before Me and be thou wholehearted.’ Genesis 17:1
H7706 שַׁדַּי shadDYE -  ALMIGHTY

וּמַלְכִּי-צֶדֶק מֶלֶךְ שָׁלֵם, הוֹצִיא לֶחֶם וָיָיִן; וְהוּא כֹהֵן, לְאֵל עֶלְיוֹן

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine; and he was priest of EL ELYON.  Genesis 14:18
H5945 EL YONE עֶלְיוֹן Most High – The ‘he’ in italics refers to Melchizedek, King of Righteousness – possibly a theophany of Yashua.

וַיֹּאמֶר אַבְרָם, אֲדֹנָי יְהוָֺה מַה-תִּתֶּן-לִי, וְאָנֹכִי, הוֹלֵךְ עֲרִירִי; וּבֶן-מֶשֶׁק בֵּיתִי, הוּא דַּמֶּשֶׂק אֱלִיעֶזֶר

And Abram said: ‘O ADONAI, YEHOVAH what wilt Thou give me, seeing I go hence childless, and he that shall be possessor of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?’ Genesis 15:2
H136 ADONAI ah doh NYE, means Lord, Master and refers to the Sovereignty of YEHOVAH!

וַיִּבֶן מֹשֶׁה, מִזְבֵּחַ; וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ, יְהוָֺה נִסִּי

And Moses built an altar and called the name of it YEHOVAH-NISSI. Exodus 17:15
H3071 YEHOVAH-NISSI (neesee) YEHOVAH MY BANNER or MY STANDARD

מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד: יְהוָֺה רֹעִי לֹא אֶחְסָר

A Psalm of David: YEHOVAH is my shepherd  I shall not want. Psalm 23:1
H7462 רָעָה  rah’ah shepherd - What you see in the verse is the possessive form - ‘my shepherd’ YEHOVAH roh’EE.

…and He said: ‘If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of YEHOVAH thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His eyes, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon thee, which I have put upon the Egyptians; for I am YEHOVAH that healeth thee.’ Exodus 15:26
EloheCHA (ELoh heh CHA) means your [plural] God; the root is the same as ELOHIM. In the Hebrew text, the words ‘healeth thee’ or ‘heals you’ is one word, row-feh CHA רֹפְאֶךָ. The root word ‘heal’ is rah FAH רָפָא H7495. So, without the plural possessive, your, attached, it is YEHOVAH is healer. YEHOVAH rahFAH יְהוָֺה רָפָא

סָבִיב, שְׁמֹנָה עָשָׂר אָלֶף; וְשֵׁם-הָעִיר מִיּוֹם, יְהוָֺה שָׁמָּה

It shall be eighteen thousand reeds round about. And the name of the city from that day shall be, YEHOVAH is there. Ezekiel 48:35
H3074 YEHOVAH-SHAMAH – shah MAH יְהוָֺה שָׁמָה

בְּיָמָיו תִּוָּשַׁע יְהוּדָה, וְיִשְׂרָאֵל יִשְׁכֹּן לָבֶטַח; וְזֶה-שְּׁמוֹ אֲשֶׁר-יִקְרְאוֹ, יְהוָֺה צִדְקֵנוּ

In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name whereby he shall be called, YEHOVAH is our righteousness.   Jeremiah 23:6
H3072 יְהוָֺה צִדְקֵנוּ YEHOVAH tsid-keh NOO    The noo נוּ ending means ‘our.’

וְאַתָּה דַּבֵּר אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, לֵאמֹר, אַךְ אֶת-שַׁבְּתֹתַי, תִּשְׁמֹרוּ:  כִּי אוֹת הִוא בֵּינִי וּבֵינֵיכֶם, לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶם--לָדַעַת, כִּי אֲנִי יְהוָֺה מְקַדִּשְׁכֶם

‘Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying: Verily ye shall keep My sabbaths, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that ye may know that I am YEHOVAH who sanctifies you.’   Exodus 31:13
YEHOVAH - H6942 m’kahdeeshCHEM מְקַדִּשְׁכֶם           He is speaking to all of Israel, thus m’kah deesh CHEM כֶם means sanctifies the plural of ‘you.’ In the Hebrew language, there is no ch sound as in cheese or chose. The CH sound in Hebrew is like the guttural sound at the end of Bach, the composer’s name. It is noted as the ‘BaCH’ sound by writing it in caps and/or underlining so that the reader knows that it is not like the ch in cheese or chose.

וַיִּטַּע אֶשֶׁל, בִּבְאֵר שָׁבַע; וַיִּקְרָא-שָׁם--בְּשֵׁם יְהוָֺה אֵל עוֹלָם

And he (Abraham) planted a tamarisk-tree in Beer-Sheba and called there in the name of YEHOVAH the Everlasting God.   Genesis 21:33
H5769 עוֹלָם ohLAM Everlasting, Eternal       Said in Hebrew, YEHOVAH EL O’lam.

לֹא-תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶה לָהֶם, וְלֹא תָעָבְדֵם:  כִּי אָנֹכִי יְהוָֺה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, אֵל קַנָּא--פֹּקֵד עֲוֺן אָבֹת עַל-בָּנִים עַל-שִׁלֵּשִׁים וְעַל-רִבֵּעִים, לְשֹׂנְאָי

…thou shalt not bow down unto them, nor serve them; for I, YEHOVAH your ELOHIM, am a jealous EL visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me…                    Exodus 20:5 (verse 4 in the Mechon-Mamre)
H7067
קַנָּא kahNAH meaning jealous     It is used only 6 times in 5 verses and is only used to describe יְהוָֺה. He is not jealous OF us as though He wants what we have. He is jealous FOR us because He desires to have our fidelity.
Also, “For יְהוָֺה your Elohim is a consuming fire, a jealous Ěl אֵל קַנָּא.” Deuteronomy 4:24

וַיִּקְרָא אַבְרָהָם שֵׁם-הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא, יְהוָֺה יִרְאֶה, אֲשֶׁר יֵאָמֵר הַיּוֹם, בְּהַר יְהוָֺה יֵרָאֶה

And Abraham called the name of that place YEHOVAH YIREH; as it is said to this day: ‘In the mount where YEHOVAH sees to it.’ Genesis 22:14
YEHOVAH yeer REH H3070 יְהוָֺה יִרְאֶה YEHOVAH PROVIDES This is the only verse where this combination of words is used. It is right after Abraham takes Isaac to be sacrificed and instead, YEHOVAH provides a ram caught in a thorn bush by his horns. That is why a ram’s horn is used as a shofar! YEHOVAH Yay rah EH יְהוָֺה יֵרָאֶה = YEHOVAH SEES TO IT – same root word

וַיִּבֶן שָׁם גִּדְעוֹן מִזְבֵּחַ לְיְהוָֺה וַיִּקְרָא-לוֹ יְהוָֺה שָׁלוֹם; עַד, הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה--עוֹדֶנּוּ, בְּעָפְרָת אֲבִי הָעֶזְרִי

Then Gideon built an altar there unto YEHOVAH and called it ‘YEHOVAH is PEACE; unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. Judges 6:24
H3073  יְהוָֺה שָׁלוֹם YEHOVAH SHALOM          Even in the King James version, it actually says Jehovah shalom rather than how translations or interpretations are done in other instances such as The LORD is peace. This is the only verse where this Name-description is used in a somewhat Hebrew fashion. Note: The “J” sound is not found in the Hebrew language because it wasn’t invented until 1524AD!

וְעָלָה הָאִישׁ הַהוּא מֵעִירוֹ מִיָּמִים יָמִימָה, לְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺת וְלִזְבֹּחַ לְיְהוָֺה צְבָאוֹת בְּשִׁלֹה; וְשָׁם שְׁנֵי בְנֵי-עֵלִי, חָפְנִי וּפִנְחָס, כֹּהֲנִים, לְיְהוָֺה

And this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there priests unto YEHOVAH. 1 Samuel 1:3
H6635 צְבָאוֹת  tsa vah OTE; יְהוָֺה צְבָאוֹת YEHOVAH of hosts, YEHOVAH of armies

בִּטְחוּ בַיְהוָֺה, עֲדֵי-עַד:  כִּי בְּיָהּ יְהוָֺה צוּר עוֹלָמִים

Trust ye in YEHOVAH forever, YEHOVAH, an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:4
Everlasting - oh la MEEM from the root of H5769 עוֹלָם o’lam;  Rock tsoor H6697 צוּר  Sometimes referred to as Rock of Ages.

חָזֵה הֲוֵית, עַד דִּי כָרְסָוָן רְמִיו, וְעַתִּיק יוֹמִין, יְתִב; לְבוּשֵׁהּ כִּתְלַג חִוָּר, וּשְׂעַר רֵאשֵׁהּ כַּעֲמַר נְקֵא, כָּרְסְיֵהּ שְׁבִבִין דִּי-נוּר, גַּלְגִּלּוֹהִי נוּר דָּלִק

I beheld till thrones were placed, and one that was Ancient of Days did sit: his raiment was as white snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and the wheels thereof burning fire. Daniel 7:9
Ancient H6268 עַתִּיק atTEEK* very old;  Days H3118 יוֹמִין yoMEEN from the word day יוֹם yohm where yoMEEN means a very long period of time
Using the idea of Edenics which theorizes that all languages are a form of shattered Hebrew, the language of creation. In the Hebrew word for ancient, you can see the word
antique and even more so, attic, a place where very old things are stored!

וַיֹּאמַר-- אֶרְחָמְךָ יְהוָֺה חִזְקִי

And he said: I love thee, O YEHOVAH, my strength.  Psalm 18:2
H2391 חֵזֶק chayZEK strength           To say, YEHOVAH MY STRENGTH, it would be YEHOVAH cheezKEE יְהוָֺה חִזְקִי. And, no it’s not cheese. Use the guttural ch as in Bach, as stated before. In fact, if you look up the literal meaning of the Hebrew words for this verse, it says, “And he said, Your mercy, YEHOVAH, is my strength.”

…and (the stiff-necked fathers) refused to hearken, neither were mindful of Thy wonders that Thou didst among them; but hardened their neck, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage; but Thou art an ELOHAH ready to pardon, gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy, and forsookest them not. Nehemiah 9:17
A God ready to pardon is read as ELOHAH sleeCHŌT.  Said as, ‘a forgiving God’ אֱלֹהִים סוֹלֵחַ – In Hebrew ELOHIM solayACH
ELOHAH
